Description
This is a quilting instruction and pattern booklet by Pat Sloan from Leisure Arts entitled ‘I Can’t Believe I’m Quilting’. This beginner’s guide is split into sections which are designed to help you to understand the processes, terms, equipment and other details involved in quilting. These secions are followed by 6 practical project lessons. The sections and lessons are as follows:
QUILTING TERMS
While quilter’s donot have a language all their own, some terms may seem foregin to a novice, so we have included a list of frequently used quilting terms.
TOOLS & SUPPLIES
Whether youa re cutting, piecing, or quilting, using the right tools and supplies will make the process easier and more enjoyable. Our list contains all of the basic supplies needed to complete the projects in this book. When you move on to more advanced projects, check out ohter speciality tools available to add to your basic supplies.
SELECTING & PREPARING FABRICS
Selecting your fabrics is an exciting step when making a quilt. .
CUTTING
This gives you options on how, when, where and what to cut.
PIECING & DRESSING
This sections goes through the choices you have and guides you on the most appropriate way forward.
QUILTING
You are now ready to make decisions on quilting and actually begin to form the quilt.
BINDING
Now that you have quilted, it’s time to bind – the finish is near!
FINISHING TOUCHES
Jump for joy, it’s now time to add those final finishing touches.
LESSON 1 – NINE-PATCH BLOCK
The first project is a single Nine-Patch Block. it is made up of 9 fabric squares arranged in 3 rows of 3 squares each – the finished size is given as 9.75 x 9.75" (25 x 25cm)
LESSON 2 – NINE-PATCH TABLE RUNNER
In the second project you join 4 Nine-Patch Blocks together and add a border to make a charming table runner – the finished size is given as 42.75 x 15.75" (109 x 40cm)
LESSON 3 – RAIL FENCE QUILT
The third project is made from four Rail Fence Blocks and a broder with contrasting corner squares. It is quick and easy to complete and the given finished size is 36.75 x 36.75" (93 x 93cm)
LESSON 4 – NINE-PATCH WALL HANGING
The fourth project uses Nine-Patch Blocks and setting squares in an alternating setting. The addition of a double border adds a finishing touch to this attractive wall hanging – the given finished size is 37.75 x 37.75" (96 x 96cm)
LESSON 5 – FRIENDSHIP STAR TABLE RUNNER
The fifth projects is made from 4 Friendship Star Blocks and introduces you to working with triangles while making an elegant table runner – the given finished size is 42.75 x 15.75" (109 x 40cm)
LESSON 6 – VARIABLE STAR QUILT
In the sixth project, large Traingle-Squares are jointed together to make a cheerful Variable Star wall hanging – the given finished size is 48.75 x 48.75" (124 x 124cm)
